RECYCLING CREATES JOBS

The EPA (ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY) published significant findings about the economic benefits of the recycling industry with an update of the national Study of Recycling Economic Information (REI) in 2016. This study analyzes the number of jobs, salaries and tax income attributed to recycling. The study found that in one year only, the recycling and reusing activities in the United States represented:

681,000 jobs

$37.8 billion in wages

$5.5 billion in tax revenues

This is equivalent to 1.17 jobs for every 1000 tons of recycled materials and $ 65.23 in salaries and $ 9.42 in tax income for every ton of recycled materials.

This equates to 1.17 jobs per 1,000 tons of materials recycled and $65.23 in wages and $9.42 in tax revenue for every ton of materials recycled.
